When Lt. Uhura Met Martin Luther King

No, this isn't a time travel story but rather a rememberance by Nichelle Nichols, who played Lt. Uhura in the classic Star Trek series, about meeting Dr. Martin Luther King and is perfect for today.

Congratulations, YOU are Going to San Diego Comic-Con International in 2013!

Congratulations, YOU are going to San Diego Comic-Con International in 2013!  "Who me," you ask.  Well maybe not YOU, but one of you who didn't get to go last year certainly are.  And how do I know this, you may ask.  I know this because, ladies and gentlemen, I am not going.  I've been on a very personal journey of healthy eating and fitness and have decided to give up my ticket this year so that somebody else can attend.

I've gone to Comic-Con for the last 6 years save for a missed renewal a few years back and it's become increasingly a hassle to attend from the lines and the lining up at the crack of dawn or the day before to get into a panel to the insanity on the floor.  This doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy myself.  Some of the best panels I attended last year were about writing.  I've decided that Comic-Con isn't consistent with my newest goals and I'll pass.  I've joked that I'm going to become my own action hero instead of watching them at panels or booths.

Does this mean I'm turning in my geek credentials and will never attend again?  Heck no!  I may even attend the mini-con (whatever they are calling it this year, it was the WonderCon replacment last year) in Anaheim in the spring.  I hope someone else enjoys my former spot at San Diego Comic-Con International 2013.  It should be fun or you!
